I am so incredibly honored that you linked to my blog. I love to see girls fishing and I really love to see couples and families fishing together. I always encourage wives and girlfriends to give fishing a try. There is really nothing like being in a boat together all day to really build a bond…lol

Hey Jacen, thanks so much for your comment. I have personally fished Carburn Park when I was younger and had so good fun there. As per the Glenmore Reservoir, I like to fish near the sailing club which is located in south Glenmore Park accessed by 14th Street and 90th Avenue S.W. You can park there and then walk the pathway towards Glenmore Tr which would be in a N.W direction. Good fishing from shore at the point in the reservoir and onward towards the Glenmore Tr Bridge.

As for fishing in downtown, I cross the Center St bridge often and see a good spot on the corner along the downtown side of the river. I would try there if I was you.

My girlfriend and I went to Carburn Park Pond today which is in the SE of Calgary and it is right alongside the Bow River and stocked with perch. We did not see any perch but I hooked a 20 pound Pike with a jig and it got off right at shore and kinda sat in the shallows. My girlfriend who just started fishing this year dangled her spinner in front of it and the beast bit the lure and she caught herself a gorgeous fish right in Calgary. THere is some amazing fishing right in this city for men and women. I am looking for a good place to fish on the Glenmore Reservoir and in the bow near downtown but have yet to find a good place with any fish that bite. Any suggestions? I do not fly fish and enjoy mostly using spoons.

Fishing is so fun hey Melly, I get the biggest rush out of hooking into whatever, normally it’s big trout for me. I am glad to hear I am helping as many people as I can via my website.

The best advice I can give you on how to identify where to go fishing is to get a Barry Mitchell’s Alberta fishing guide. It’s packed with all the spots to fish in Alberta. It also contains what species are in that body of water and how to get there. As for the Bow River, Google Earth is a good place to look.

Great site Mike. I haven`t fished since i was a little girl till my new boyfriend took me a couple weeks ago. He`s not from around Calgary and has found your site very helpfull. We still are not very famuliar with places to go on the river and what to use and how to use it…lol. Keep up the great posts.

Your welcome Emily, I feel honored that I get to meet great people like yourself and we get to share our fishing journeys together. I am truly blessed. I am happy to hear you and yours are content to fish together and catch some great looking fish.

I agree with your statement, many women ARE missing out and I believe many more women will come on board and join the sport. I know your pictures encourage me and I hope they encourage women as well. There’s nothing that can touch the pounding of your heart when you hook into a monster fish, man or women.

In Canada, more people fish than play hockey and golf combined. That’s huge !!!! I am sure many more will join in the excitement and yell “Fish On” Keep the passion in your heart and keep sharing your fishing journeys with us Emily.

Thanks for sharing this We’re just starting to gear up to do some family trout fishing on the Bow (spinning). Your blog is full of great info, and I find this post in particular very encouraging.
