Fishing Trips- Bow River

I set aside that rod and picked up my other rod which is all ready to go. Proceed to make a cast and the lure only went about three meters, the lure hits the water and all of a sudden a massive Brown completely destroys my Minnow Spinner. This fish was so aggressive it bent the split ring that holds the hook onto the lure straight. There is huge fish in this hole which is between Policeman’s Flats and Mackinnon Flats. I am looking forward to my next trip out on the Bow River as I believe the fishing is going to be very good in the next few weeks leading up to October. I wish everyone good luck on your next trip out. As you will notice I have added a photo gallery to the Blog so you now know that these stories are not just fish tales. Happy fishing.

Gone fishing- Bow River

Hello all you fisherman out there, it’s been awhile since I made my last post on my Blog. I have been quite busy lately but I always manage to go fishing twice a week. Today was a great day out on the Bow River. My good buddy Tom and I floated from Policeman’s Flats to MacKinnon Flats which took us almost five hours as the water levels have dropped a great deal. Although the water levels are low the fishing on the Bow is still awesome lately. The Brown Trout are now getting ready to spawn so look to be catching more Brown’s now.

I find this time of year it is better to fish later in the evening for the big Browns as opposed to early in the morning. Today’s float we started out at 6:00 AM and were on the water at 7:00AM. The fishing was a little slow at first but as the water temperature warmed up the fishing started to get really good. My goal today, as I said to Tom before we started fishing; was to catch four trout over 20 inches. I was in for quite a surprise today and I managed to land 6-10 fish, all Rainbow Trout, over 18 inches.

Gone Fishing- Bow River

I often go on hunches when I fish and something told me to use the Minnow Spinner today. This is the lure I got most of my big fish with. A couple of the bigger Rainbow’s were also taking the Panther Martin, as well as the Minnow Spinner. I like the Minnow Spinner because you can fish it in shallow water as well as the deeper holes, so it is very versatile in all depths of water. Not only that but bigger fish tend to want to hammer on this big minnow imitation. So all in all, the fishing is still very good on the Bow River these days. Spend some extra time at your local tackle shop and choose the rite gear for the conditions and you will do a lot better when you go fishing. Good luck.
